On 18th August 2021, the Public Health Emergency Management Committee held its quarterly meeting to discuss and review matters on Covid 19 pandemic within the district.

The District Chief Executive, Hon Ernest Apau in his welcome address took the opportunity to thank members for their dedication and hard work in their effort to prevent a surge in Covid 19 pandemic since March 2020 in the District.

He disclosed that Government is committed in the fight against the pandemic but negative attitudes of some Ghanaians in adherence to the safety protocols is the cause for the surge in Covid 19 cases in the country.

Hon. Apau stated that the new delta variant infection rate is alarming, hence the call on all stakeholders to work together in ensuring strict adherence to the protocols in our communities i.e washing of hands under running water, wearing of nose masks in the public places and social distancing.

Briefing the committee on Covid 19 cases in the District, Mr Evans Agbodo, the District Public Health Officer stated that since March 2020-2021, the Directorate collected 493 samples, received 428 results, 65 results pending, 43 positive cases recorded, 42 recovered and 1 yet to recover. He therefore caution the public to make use of the Covid 19 protocols since all are at risk from contracting the virus.

On state of vaccination in the district, Mrs Perpetual Ametefe indicated that 592 vaccines were received in April of which 229 health workers and 296 staff from other departments took the jab.

She advised that those who have already received the first dose of the AstraZeneca vaccination and are waiting for the second dosage should not mixed with the Johnson and Johnson vaccine. Also, those that have taken their first jab were also encouraged to still wear their nose masks.

The committee agreed to intensify education and enforcement of the protocols.

Drivers, funeral mourners, pastors, traders, schools, institutions etc should ensure all their members adhere to the protocols . The committee further indicated that anyone seen flouting these directives in the district will be prosecuted.
